Carbon Tax and Carbon Trading

Carbon Tax and Carbon Trading

The approaching changes can offer more opportunities than threats, providing it is seen in that light. Rather than dismiss it, as a thing of no good, careful consideration is needed to see how best it can be used to advantage. There is a building tsunami of hype on the subject set to engulf business. Issues with leaping to early conclusions over the exacting requirements are many E.G.:

  • Technology - This is set to move a pace with the introduction of the scheme. Like computers the balancing trick is the net costs of buying now or waiting for the next generation of computer.
  • Economics - Probably the most fraught. Work needs to be done to identify exposure to costs for a given business. The monetary value assigned to carbon dioxide emissions is not defined but will be in the range of $20-$40 a tonne. If you are tempted to leap to carbon trading as an immediate solution you may find you have paid 'over the odds' for it. This could be either by not needing to do so or the value is set lower than the cost. Also any new market will shift significantly at launch.
  • Longevity - A new Carbon emissions scheme will take a time to bed in. During this period changes in direction are likely. It follows then that when setting a strategy to have any longevity it will need pre planned contingencies (not necessarily financial) and review points.

In amongst the hype there will be plenty of 'what', 'why', 'when', 'where' and who, crucially CarbOn20 can provide not only the answers to these but also a pragmatic 'HOW' to deal with the issues. So no matter business size CarbOn20 can offer your business an appropriately resourced solution with ongoing support at an appropriate level.

2. Do a bit, think it through as a matter of expediancy and plan.
3. Get the business ''green'' ASAP, any harm in that?

ignoring 1 (which is easy) the business would need to (re)organise in some way for 2 or 3 as best fits...    perhaps that is something needed anyway and here is a trigger?    too busy right now... may need to get resourced.

means writing a note for the notice board, telling the workforce, follow up etc.
Also look to see if company policies need modifying to stay on top and not compromise any Co. awards, ISO or otherwise.
